Glossary

Terms for staying exact.

The old split returns through sloppy words. These terms keep appearance, actuality, constraint, closure, objectivity, and care from collapsing back into subject versus object.

Use

Plain meaning first. Formal meaning next.

Each term begins from ordinary contact and moves toward the formal system. The aim is not jargon. The aim is disciplined language for what is already appearing.

Ground

Protospace

Plain meaning: The ground state and inviolable condition of actuality. Not consciousness, not the universe, not a spatial container, not actuality itself.

Guardrail: Closures do not merely happen inside Protospace; they close because of Protospace.

Actuality

Plain meaning: What is real as apparent. Actuality is not hidden behind appearance, but it is not reducible to human experience.

Guardrail: Actuality is apparent by nature; human experience is one mode of apparency.

Apparency

Plain meaning: Actuality’s nature of being manifest, resolved, expressed, or available under constraint.

Guardrail: All human experience is apparency; not all apparency is human experience.

Potential

Plain meaning: Latent unresolved capacity within actuality. Not outside the real, not nothing, and not a hidden finished universe.

Guardrail: Potential becomes determinate only through constraint and closure.

Actualization

Constraint

Plain meaning: The condition of specificity. Constraint is what allows anything to be this rather than indeterminate latency.

Guardrail: Constraint includes bodies, instruments, language, measurement, scale, time, ritual, law, and attention.

Constraint Regime

Plain meaning: A structured set of conditions under which actuality becomes determinate in a specific way.

Guardrail: A lab, nervous system, legal system, dream state, or poem can function as a constraint regime.

Closure

Plain meaning: The coherent resolution of actuality under a specific constraint regime.

Guardrail: Closure is ontological, not merely mental or interpretive.

Determinacy

Plain meaning: The condition of being specified as this.

Guardrail: Determinate actuality requires constraint.

Cross-Constraint Coherence

Plain meaning: Stability across relevant constraint regimes.

Guardrail: This replaces the fantasy of an unconstrained view from nowhere.

Human closure

Experience

Plain meaning: What is conventionally called experience is reality appearing under nervous-system/environment closure.

Guardrail: Not an inner copy, not a private mental theater, not owned by a hidden subject.

Nervous-System/Environment Closure

Plain meaning: The living binding of nervous system, body, environment, space, time, memory, affect, attention, language, need, and relation.

Guardrail: Human experience is this closure appearing.

Body

Plain meaning: A primary constraint structure through which human actuality appears.

Guardrail: Not low-level machinery beneath metaphysics; part of the living closure.

Environment

Plain meaning: The co-constituting field with which an organism binds.

Guardrail: Not merely outside experience; it participates in closure.

Subject-Pattern

Plain meaning: The “I” pattern appearing within closure: name, memory, body-reference, agency-feeling, identity, preference, and narrative.

Guardrail: Actual as pattern, not the owner of appearance.

Language

Plain meaning: A constraint regime that stabilizes, reveals, deforms, coordinates, wounds, repairs, and transforms closure.

Guardrail: Words do not merely label finished reality.

Truth and error

Objectivity

Plain meaning: Cross-constraint coherence: stability across relevant closures, bodies, instruments, measurements, and relations.

Guardrail: Not an unconstrained world behind all appearing.

Truth

Plain meaning: Fidelity to actuality under the relevant closure, tested by cross-constraint coherence where appropriate.

Guardrail: Truth is neither private fantasy nor correspondence to an impossible unconstrained object.

Error

Plain meaning: Misclassification, misattribution, overextension, or failed cross-constraint coherence.

Guardrail: Error does not mean nothing happened.

Misclassification

Plain meaning: Treating an actual closure as the wrong kind of actuality.

Guardrail: The rope-snake was actual as snake-appearance, not actual as reptile.

Correction

Plain meaning: Reclassification through expanded or disciplined constraints.

Guardrail: Correction clarifies what appeared; it does not erase the appearance.

Ethics and applications

Care

Plain meaning: Fidelity to apparent actuality.

Guardrail: Where reality appears as need, pain, vulnerability, relation, or demand, care is the fitting response.

Suffering

Plain meaning: Not identical with pain. Often resistance, division, destructive constraint, or elsewhere-fantasy within closure.

Guardrail: This must never become blame. Trauma, illness, poverty, oppression, and grief are real constraints.

Science

Plain meaning: Disciplined closure production and comparison.

Guardrail: Science does not escape appearance; it refines constraint and tests coherence.

Art

Plain meaning: Deliberate closure alteration.

Guardrail: Style is constraint, not decoration.

Society

Plain meaning: Collective closure engineering.

Guardrail: Social reality is not merely constructed; it is institutionally constrained actuality.
